You will own the Android client experience for Actai, ensuring AI interactions feel natural and performant on mobile devices. The role involves building a production application where AI capabilities are central, requiring a focus on stability, low latency, and efficient resource usage.
The team aims to create proactive applications that organize users' lives with minimal prompting. You will collaborate closely with backend and ML engineers to design UX patterns for streaming responses and handle non-deterministic behaviors inherent in AI workflows.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain production Android applications using Kotlin
- Integrate AI features such as chat, vision, and voice via backend APIs
- Design UX patterns for streaming responses and partial results
- Optimize app performance, memory usage, and responsiveness
- Implement analytics and logging to support AI evaluation
- Collaborate with backend and ML engineers on API contracts
- Ensure application stability, security, and scalability
What you'll need
- 3+ years of Android development experience with Kotlin
- Hands-on experience integrating AI features like LLMs or speech APIs
- Strong understanding of asynchronous programming with Coroutines and Flow
- Familiarity with REST or gRPC APIs and structured data formats
- Strong debugging and performance profiling skills
- Comfort working with latency, partial failure, and non-deterministic behavior
- Experience with MLKit or light on-device inference
- Published production apps on the Google Play Store
