Join the Applied Science team at Thumbtack to drive growth within the Pro Growth pod. You will develop models and experiments that determine how service professionals join, activate, and succeed on the platform. Your work will directly impact marketplace health by ensuring the right supply meets customer demand across thousands of local markets.
What you'll do
- Drive applied science projects focusing on pro acquisition, activation, and retention
- Develop and deploy ML models for lead scoring, supply forecasting, and churn prediction
- Design and execute marketplace experiments to measure business impact
- Analyze structured and unstructured data to identify supply trends and risks
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to implement ML systems in production
- Contribute to agentic-first workflows using LLM-powered tooling and AI agents
What you'll need
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field or equivalent industry experience
- 3+ years of experience as an applied scientist, data scientist, or ML engineer
- Experience in applied science within marketplace, supply chain, or growth domains
- Strong knowledge of classification, regression, embeddings, and causal inference
- Familiarity with modern LLMs and agentic AI development practices
- Proficiency in probability, statistics, econometric methods, and experimental design
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems like Spark or Databricks
- Ability to read, write, and debug code in Python and SQL
