You will engineer the backend services powering BJAK's insurance and neobanking platforms, focusing on reliability and scale. The team builds APIs for payments, accounts, and risk flows while integrating with financial partners and AI services.
This position requires strong fundamentals in distributed systems and a mindset focused on security, data integrity, and operational excellence. You will collaborate with product, mobile, and AI teams to launch features rapidly.
What you'll do
- Build backend services and APIs for onboarding, payments, cards, and FX
- Design reliable systems for real customer transactions and operational workflows
- Integrate with internal systems, payment providers, and third-party platforms
- Ensure backend quality regarding security, latency, and data integrity
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to launch features safely
- Simplify existing flows and automate repeatable manual processes
What you'll need
- Strong backend engineering experience in production environments
- Solid understanding of APIs, databases, auth, queues, and events
- Experience building services at meaningful scale for real users
- Strong focus on debugging, reliability, security, and data quality
- Ability to balance speed, correctness, scalability, and maintainability
- Based in Portugal with strong English communication skills
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech, payments, banking, or digital wallets
- Knowledge of KYC, fraud detection, or risk management systems
