You will define the scientific strategy for creating high-performance permanent magnets that reduce reliance on rare earth elements. Working within the Chemical Simulation group, you will apply physics-based simulation and Large Quantitative Models to solve critical materials challenges for U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and defense.

As the technical leader, you will build a multidisciplinary team and bridge the gap between computational discovery and experimental validation. You will also manage key relationships with national labs, industrial partners, and government organizations to translate research into manufacturable technologies.

What you'll do

  • Define the technical roadmap for magnetism research and microstructure engineering
  • Build and mentor a team of research scientists and computational experts
  • Guide the development of magnetism-aware Large Quantitative Models
  • Manage intellectual property strategy and identify valuable design spaces
  • Lead scientific engagement with national labs and industrial partners
  • Architect feedback loops between modeling and experimental validation
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to structure licensing agreements
  • Represent the vertical in publications and investor updates

What you'll need

  • PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or related field
  • Deep specialization in magnetism or hard magnetic materials
  • 10+ years post-PhD experience leading scientific programs
  • Experience translating modeling into manufacturable formulations
  • Track record of building multidisciplinary scientific teams
  • Strong publication and patent record in the field
  • Ability to represent work to government and industrial audiences

Nice to have

  • Experience with Fe-N, Mn-based, or Sm-Co magnet systems
  • Familiarity with lithography, vacuum, or defense applications
  • Experience with CHIPS Act or federally funded R&D programs
  • Background in NewCo formation or IP licensing
  • Track record of scaling materials to commercial manufacturing

Stack

  • Large Quantitative Models
  • Physics-based simulation
  • Multi-scale modeling

How you'll work

  • Flexible hybrid work arrangements
  • Global team environment
  • Focus on U.S. industrial resilience

What you get

  • Competitive base salary and equity
  • Performance-based incentives
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous parental leave and PTO
  • Dedicated learning budgets
