Join the Core Performance Engineering team at ClickHouse, where you will analyze and enhance the speed and efficiency of the database engine. You will work on query optimization, relational operators, and SIMD instructions while collaborating with the open-source community and internal support teams.
What you'll do
- Analyze and optimize core database performance including query execution
- Work on distributed query optimization and relational operators like joins
- Implement low-level optimizations such as SIMD instructions and caching
- Extend and create performance tests using real-world or synthetic datasets
- Assist Support Engineering in debugging complex customer performance issues
- Collaborate with core teams to assess performance impact of new features
- Engage with the open-source community by reviewing PRs and answering questions
What you'll need
- Solid professional software development experience in C++
- Experience with Unix Systems
- Strong knowledge of database internals and design principles
- Background in performance engineering for databases or similar fields
- Ability to communicate effectively across engineering teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and production debugging experience
- Willingness to participate patiently in code reviews and community support
Nice to have
- Prior experience with ClickHouse
- Knowledge of security, privacy, and compliance standards
- Experience with TCP/IP and network programming
- Background in developing cloud infrastructure with Kubernetes
- History of giving public talks at technical conferences
- Previous contributions to open source projects
