Join Lightspeed as a Principal Software Developer to drive the technical direction of the Retail Point of Sale software. You will work across teams to enhance system reliability, performance, and scalability while mentoring senior engineers. This role combines hands-on coding with strategic architectural decisions to support merchants globally.
What you'll do
- Define and communicate architectural vision for key Retail POS areas
- Ensure new features are secure, scalable, observable, and resilient
- Lead deep architectural analyses to simplify systems and reduce risk
- Drive improvements in reliability, availability, and latency
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders to expand their impact
- Collaborate with product and design to translate business needs into tech solutions
- Establish engineering best practices for testing, deployment, and incident management
What you'll need
- Significant experience designing strategic software systems in production
- Proven track record of technical leadership across multiple teams
- Experience shaping architectures for large-scale, complex cloud systems
- Ability to deliver results under tight deadlines with incomplete information
- Strong systemic thinking and communication skills for complex ideas
- Hands-on approach to prototyping, reviewing, and contributing code
- Fluency in English is required for this global role
Nice to have
- Experience with POS, e-commerce, payment, or inventory systems
- Knowledge of distributed systems, offline software, or multi-region architectures
- Familiarity with hardware integrations and unstable network environments
- Understanding of Domain-Driven Design and event-driven architectures
