You will manage a group of engineers responsible for building and maintaining Render's Postgres offering. The role combines technical leadership with product strategy, requiring you to translate user needs into reliable, scalable systems used by hundreds of thousands of developers.
Your focus will be on driving execution, improving engineering practices, and ensuring high standards of quality and reliability. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and infrastructure teams to deliver features that enhance the developer experience.
What you'll do
- Lead and mentor a team of Postgres engineers through feedback and guidance
- Drive product initiatives from ideation to launch with a focus on reliability
- Partner with Product and Design to translate customer needs into technical solutions
- Guide system design decisions and help navigate architectural tradeoffs
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Break down complex problems into incremental milestones for quick value delivery
- Ensure the team understands the developer experience and customer impact
What you'll need
- 8+ years of engineering experience shipping products with business impact
- 2+ years of experience managing people, including hiring and performance management
- Strong technical background in system design and architecture
- Product-oriented mindset capable of translating goals into roadmaps
- Ability to balance urgency with thoughtful, high-quality execution
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Strong sense of ownership for team outcomes and system health
Nice to have
- Experience building products for developer platforms or cloud infrastructure
- Background in highly scalable distributed systems
- Experience improving engineering velocity through tooling and processes
- Track record of building products used directly by technical users
- History of collaborating with product and support to drive adoption
