As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Chalk, you will bridge the gap between our high-performance data platform and customer infrastructure. You will embed with client data science and engineering teams to implement solutions, identify gaps, and build new capabilities directly into the product.
This position requires strong backend engineering skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will play a key role in pre-sales and post-sales support while helping to shape the future of the engineering team.
What you'll do
- Implement Chalk technology across the codebase for various customer environments
- Design and ship new features based on direct customer needs and feedback
- Serve as the primary technical contact during pre-sales and onboarding phases
- Collaborate closely with internal Engineering and Sales teams
- Recommend product enhancements as customer business requirements evolve
- Assist in interviewing candidates and growing the engineering organization
What you'll need
- Four or more years of professional backend software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL programming languages
- Background in writing software or building machine learning models
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication and storytelling skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical groups
Nice to have
- Previous experience with machine learning data products or services
- Understanding of Machine Learning Operations and infrastructure
- Prior role as a forward-deployed engineer in a high-growth startup
- Experience working closely with sales teams and external customers
