As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Chalk, you will bridge the gap between our high-performance data platform and customer infrastructure. You will embed with client data science and engineering teams to implement solutions, identify new feature requirements, and build initial versions of those capabilities into the core product.
This position requires strong backend engineering skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will play a key role in pre-sales and post-sales support while helping to grow the engineering organization.
What you'll do
- Implement Chalk technology across the codebase for specific customer environments
- Design and ship new features based on direct customer needs and feedback
- Serve as the primary technical contact during pre-sales and onboarding phases
- Collaborate closely with internal Engineering and Sales teams
- Recommend product enhancements as customer business requirements evolve
- Assist in interviewing candidates and contributing to team growth
What you'll need
- Four or more years of professional backend software engineering experience
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for building robust applications
- Background in writing software or constructing machine learning models
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical groups
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Nice to have
- Previous experience with machine learning data products or services
- Understanding of Machine Learning Operations and infrastructure concepts
- Prior role as a forward-deployed engineer in a high-growth startup
- Experience working directly with sales teams and enterprise customers
