As the first Forward Deployed Engineer, you will serve as the primary technical contact for customers in the field. You will own integrations, handle onsite deployments, and translate operational needs into scalable technical solutions for mission-critical mining environments.
You will work hands-on with customer systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and rapidly prototype tools to validate ideas. This role requires embedding with users to ensure technology performs reliably under real-world constraints while feeding insights back to the engineering team.
What you'll do
- Spend approximately 25% of time onsite with customers across the US
- Shadow operators to understand workflows, constraints, and integration needs
- Rapidly prototype tools and integrations in the field to solve urgent problems
- Troubleshoot complex operational or systems issues in varied environments
- Translate field insights into clear technical requirements for engineering
- Lead technical integration work including APIs, data pipelines, and hardware interfaces
- Support pre-sales by demonstrating product value to prospects onsite
- Advocate for product changes based on frontline feedback and data
What you'll need
- At least 2 years of software engineering or forward deployed experience
- Strong technical fluency with ability to read, write, and debug code
- Experience with enterprise, industrial, government, or security-critical products
- Mastery of core development and infrastructure tools like Git and Linux
- Ability to lead cross-functional problem solving and drive projects to delivery
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholders
- Comfortable with AI-assisted coding and rapid prototyping
- Based in the US, preferably a citizen or permanent resident
Nice to have
- Onsite experience with customers in field or operational environments
- Background deploying software to industrial or government settings
- Familiarity with IoT, industrial systems, or real-time data pipelines
- Expertise in mining or industrial safety regulations
