As the founding Forward Deployed Engineer, you will turn strategic enterprise deployments into success stories by embedding on-site with customers. You will solve real-world problems, build reusable automation patterns, and bridge the gap between customer needs and product engineering.
You will work directly with clients to design and implement production-grade workflows, ensuring solutions are scalable and repeatable. Your insights will help shape the n8n platform while delivering immediate value to enterprise users.
What you'll do
- Embed on-site with enterprise customers for focused five-day deployment engagements
- Design and build custom workflows, integrations, and nodes tailored to client environments
- Partner with Deployment Strategists to align technical execution with business goals
- Identify bespoke requirements that should become core product features or improvements
- Document technical gaps and customer context to create feedback loops with Engineering
- Contribute reusable learnings and patterns to an internal playbook library
- Deliver time-boxed engagements with clear outcomes rather than open-ended services
What you'll need
- Solid full-stack or backend engineering experience in production environments
- Expertise in building integrations, APIs, and automation pipelines
- Ability to create custom nodes and work with authentication patterns and data models
- Comfortable working directly in customer environments with diverse stakeholders
- Strong solution design skills to translate messy problems into clean technical designs
- Willingness to travel approximately 30-50% of the time for on-site work
- Capacity to quickly understand new industries and tech stacks without strict definitions
Nice to have
- Familiarity with n8n or similar workflow automation tools
- Experience deploying solutions for strategic enterprise accounts
- Background in building custom nodes, connectors, plugins, or SDKs
- Previous experience in forward deployed or solutions engineering roles
- Track record of turning customer learnings into product roadmap input
