As Head of Applied ML, you will own a major machine learning domain end-to-end, managing a team of applied scientists that will grow to six members by 2026. You will balance people management with technical credibility, reviewing code and guiding architecture for systems that protect financial institutions from fraud.
You will partner with product and engineering leaders to define strategy and deliver high-impact solutions. The role requires deep expertise in deploying production ML models and a strong grasp of AI safety and data governance within the fintech sector.
What you'll do
- Manage and mentor a team of applied ML scientists, setting engineering practices
- Own strategy, roadmap, and resourcing for your specific ML domain
- Review pull requests and guide modeling and architecture decisions
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Risk leadership on priorities
- Oversee full model lifecycle from data acquisition to production monitoring
- Research emerging fraud patterns and build new verification capabilities
- Define how the team leverages AI and LLMs in development workflows
What you'll need
- 10+ years industry ML experience or 7+ years with relevant PhD
- 6+ years managing ML or data science teams across multiple companies
- Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Physics
- Proven track record deploying production ML models and Python code
- Strong knowledge of applied statistics and standard ML tooling
- Experience in fraud, identity, fintech, or banking risk domains preferred
- Must be legally authorized to work and live in the United States
