Join the Infrastructure organization at Runpod to manage network volumes, local NVMe, and S3-compatible object storage. You will bridge architectural design and operational execution, writing code to automate storage operations and optimizing high-speed fabrics for AI training and inference.
This senior role requires deep expertise in Linux internals and distributed storage systems. You will own capacity planning, performance tuning, and reliability, working closely with SRE and networking teams to ensure fast cold starts and efficient data streaming for over a million developers.
What you'll do
- Own capacity, durability, and performance of network volumes and object storage
- Tune I/O paths including filesystems, caching, and replication strategies
- Diagnose complex performance issues across the storage stack
- Lead hardware refreshes and data migrations without service disruption
- Design and tune network paths for high-throughput storage traffic
- Optimize RDMA/RoCE and high-speed Ethernet fabrics for storage
- Write production code for control-plane services and provisioning workflows
- Automate manual operations and treat infrastructure as code
- Instrument storage fleet with metrics for IOPS, latency, and utilization
- Build dashboards and alerts to detect degradation early
- Participate in on-call rotation and drive post-incident improvements
What you'll need
- 8+ years in infrastructure, storage, or systems engineering
- Deep experience with distributed storage systems like Ceph or MinIO
- Strong knowledge of Linux internals, block layer, and filesystems
- Experience building or operating S3-compatible object storage
- Solid networking fundamentals tuned for storage workloads
- Proficiency in writing production code in Go, Python, or Rust
- Hands-on experience with observability tools like Prometheus
- Track record of performance analysis under production pressure
- Self-starting ability to diagnose and plan solutions independently
- Collaborative mindset with strong ownership of outcomes
Nice to have
- Experience with storage for AI/ML workloads and GPU data locality
- Knowledge of Kubernetes storage internals and CSI drivers
- Experience with bare-metal hardware selection and vendor management
- Background in multi-tenant environments with strict QoS requirements
- Previous work at a fast-growing cloud or infrastructure provider
