Powerline transforms how renewable energy and battery storage assets operate on the electricity grid. As a Lead AI Engineer, you will design and deploy AI agents that reason over complex data and orchestrate modeling workflows. These systems support experts in energy markets by providing decision-support tools and running autonomous tasks without human intervention.
What you'll do
- Architect agentic AI systems that plan, reason, and act across workflows
- Design tool-using agents that integrate with existing Powerline systems
- Develop multi-step decision systems for complex operational tasks
- Build stateful and long-running agents for continuous operation
- Define and implement evaluation frameworks for AI performance
- Improve reliability, observability, and safety of production LLM systems
- Collaborate with specialists to translate workflows into agent logic
- Help lead technical direction for agent architecture and system design
What you'll need
- Experience building production AI or software systems with LLMs
- Strong Python skills and experience integrating with APIs
- Experience designing multi-step or stateful systems like pipelines
- Experience building memory and Retrieval Augmented Generation frameworks
- Experience with Agent evaluation based on direct user feedback
- Experience with Agent orchestration frameworks such as LangChain
- Ability to operate across engineering, product, and applied AI teams
- Strong ownership mindset for building systems from scratch
- Excellent communication skills for cross-team collaboration
Nice to have
- Experience building systems with partial or full autonomy
- Experience working with real-time or streaming data pipelines
- Background in electricity markets, trading, or energy systems
- Experience with time-series modeling or forecasting techniques
- Experience with optimization systems and algorithms
