BJAK is expanding beyond its roots as a leading Southeast Asian insurance platform to help users manage spending, saving, and investing. This role focuses on building next-generation financial applications, specifically an AI-native email app, by raising the engineering bar across the team.
As a Lead Engineer, you will take ownership of complex systems from idea to production. You are expected to remain hands-on, writing code and reviewing designs while guiding other engineers through difficult technical challenges in a distributed environment.
What you'll do
- Lead technical design and execution for major products and features
- Design scalable backend, frontend, API, and database systems
- Remain hands-on with coding, prototyping, and debugging
- Make architecture decisions balancing speed and reliability
- Mentor engineers and review code to improve team capability
- Identify technical risks and architectural weaknesses early
- Collaborate with product and AI teams to ship quality software
- Monitor production systems and resolve incident root causes
What you'll need
- Strong background in building and shipping production systems
- Deep expertise in backend, frontend, or distributed systems
- Proven experience providing technical leadership to engineers
- Ability to explain complex technical decisions clearly
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and taking full ownership
- Strong product sense linking tech to business outcomes
- Willingness to stay hands-on with code and reviews
- Fluent English communication for global collaboration
