BJAK is expanding beyond its leading insurance platform in Southeast Asia to help users manage spending, saving, and investing. As a Lead Engineer, you will take technical ownership of complex products, guiding the team from idea to production while maintaining high engineering standards.
This position requires a leader who remains close to the code, making strong technical decisions and solving difficult engineering problems. You will work with distributed teams globally, focusing on building next-generation financial applications that are accessible to millions.
What you'll do
- Lead technical design and execution for major products and features
- Design scalable systems across backend, frontend, APIs, and infrastructure
- Stay hands-on by coding, prototyping, and reviewing peer code
- Make architecture decisions balancing speed, reliability, and maintainability
- Mentor engineers to strengthen technical capability across the team
- Monitor production systems and resolve root causes of incidents
- Improve engineering tooling and automation to increase team velocity
What you'll need
- Strong background in building and shipping production software systems
- Deep expertise in backend, frontend, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure
- Proven experience providing technical leadership on major engineering projects
- Ability to explain complex technical decisions clearly to cross-functional teams
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and taking ownership from start to finish
- Strong product sense connecting technical choices to business outcomes
- Willingness to remain hands-on with coding and debugging complex issues
