Join the Navigation team at Mapbox to build recommendation systems for the routing cost engine. You will lead technical execution for a group of approximately 80 engineers, focusing on distributed systems and geospatial data.
The team powers navigation for consumer, automotive, and logistics sectors, working with partners like BMW and Toyota. Your work will directly impact in-vehicle experiences and map accuracy through advanced machine learning models.
What you'll do
- Lead engineering teams to implement end-to-end features for the routing cost engine
- Design and optimize machine learning and data processing pipelines
- Build automated tools for quality assurance and data exploration
- Apply geospatial algorithms for pipeline optimization and outlier detection
- Collaborate with data scientists to improve traffic and movement pattern models
- Mentor colleagues and conduct code and design reviews
- Participate in an on-call rotation for 24/7 system availability
What you'll need
- 8-10+ years of experience in backend engineering and machine learning
- Extensive proficiency with Python and large-scale data processing
- Experience with distributed pipelines such as Hadoop, Spark, Airflow, or Dask
- Strong background in cloud infrastructure deployment and management
- Proven track record in mentoring teams and leading technical strategy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to make data-informed decisions with incomplete information
