Join the core API team at Runway to help scale a platform that handles thousands of requests per second. You will work on critical infrastructure powering both external developer tools and internal systems, managing user data, task orchestration, and billing.
This position focuses on high-impact engineering within a mature production system. You will design async workflows, optimize Postgres queries, and implement security measures to maintain reliability at scale while improving the developer experience.
What you'll do
- Own the full API lifecycle from design and implementation to monitoring
- Design async workflows for task orchestration and content moderation
- Optimize queries for high-traffic Postgres databases
- Build rate limiting, fraud detection, and credit management systems
- Implement API security, authentication, and comprehensive monitoring
- Improve public API developer experience via documentation and SDKs
- Enhance performance, reliability, and code quality across codebases
What you'll need
- 3+ years of industry experience building production APIs
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript for immediate productivity
- Experience owning systems end-to-end including infrastructure and incident response
- Solid understanding of REST principles and async workflow patterns
- Experience with relational databases, preferably Postgres, and query optimization
- Ability to architect production-ready systems using AWS, GCP, or Azure primitives
- Capacity to rapidly prototype solutions under tight product deadlines
