Join Masabi’s Architecture team as a Principal Engineer, focusing on evolving the technical direction of the Justride fare collection platform. You will balance high-level architectural decisions with hands-on implementation, specifically strengthening data architecture and ensuring system scalability.
This position requires a senior technical leader who can navigate ambiguity, define standards, and guide complex engineering decisions across multiple teams while remaining close to the code.
What you'll do
- Define platform blueprints, standards, and best practices
- Shape data architecture strategy including storage and usage
- Design and deliver scalable, cost-efficient services
- Remain hands-on with code reviews and targeted contributions
- Solve complex challenges related to performance and resilience
- Act as a senior technical advisor across engineering teams
- Contribute to technical roadmap planning and prioritization
- Produce high-quality technical documentation and artifacts
What you'll need
- Experience designing distributed systems and microservices
- Previous operation at Principal or Staff engineer level
- Strong background with cloud platforms, preferably AWS
- Proven experience in data architecture and large data stores
- Ability to translate vague problems into technical approaches
- Strong REST API design skills in multi-service environments
- Effective communication of complex ideas to diverse audiences
- Interest in architectural implications of AI-enabled systems
Nice to have
- Experience migrating monoliths to microservices
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures like Kafka
- Background in optimizing cloud costs at scale
- Familiarity with Kotlin or Java development
- Experience with DynamoDB, MySQL, Snowflake, or Spark
- Proficiency with Terraform and GitLab CI/CD
