Join HavocAI to build the command interfaces used by operators controlling autonomous vehicles across air, sea, and land. You will design and scale the map-based systems that display live telemetry and enable critical decision-making in complex environments.
As a Principal Engineer, you will work directly with the Head of Frontend to define technical strategy. Your focus will be on performance optimization, architectural resilience, and mentoring senior engineers while handling complex real-time data challenges.
What you'll do
- Architect frontend systems for high-frequency real-time data in React
- Design map layer lifecycle and interaction states for large feature sets
- Implement performance optimizations to keep telemetry off the render path
- Mentor senior engineers on real-time and geospatial engineering patterns
- Identify architectural risks early through design reviews and proposals
- Build scalable solutions for degraded or intermittent connectivity scenarios
What you'll need
- 10+ years of frontend engineering experience at Staff or Principal level
- Expert-level proficiency in React and TypeScript rendering models
- Deep experience with MapLibre, Mapbox GL, Deck.gl or similar tools
- Proven track record scaling real-time apps with high entity counts
- Knowledge of WebSockets, MQTT, gRPC-web, or SSE protocols
- Strong expertise in browser performance including GPU and memory
- Experience designing client-side data architectures using workers
Nice to have
- Experience converting internal tools to multi-tenant products
- Depth in data visualization with D3 or custom charting
- Proficiency in 3D, WebGL, three.js, or custom shaders
- Background in defense, aerospace, or robotics systems
