You will serve as the first dedicated QA professional, embedded directly with Engineering and Product teams. Your primary focus is validating complex mortgage workflows from a lender's perspective, catching edge cases, and preventing bugs from reaching customers.
Beyond execution, you will establish the company's quality playbook, including SOPs and release checklists. This role provides the opportunity to shape the testing culture and eventually hire and lead a growing QA team.
What you'll do
- Execute end-to-end tests on UIs and workflows using real loan scenarios
- Identify visual glitches, calculation errors, and data inconsistencies
- Write detailed bug reports with steps, screenshots, and expected behavior
- Build and maintain a regression suite with manual and automated scripts
- Verify release readiness and sign off on shipping decisions
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering during design reviews
- Define QA SOPs, severity rubrics, and quality metrics
- Hire and train future QA team members as the company scales
What you'll need
- Experience in mortgage operations such as underwriting or closing
- Familiarity with loan origination systems like Encompass or Empower
- Background in manual test design, exploratory testing, and regression
- Willingness to write and maintain light automation scripts
- Strong attention to detail for catching subtle errors
- Clear written communication for bug reports and test plans
- Comfort with developer tools, JSON, and API responses
- Process-oriented mindset to systematize bug detection
Nice to have
- Experience in regulated or financial software environments
- Proficiency with Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium
- Interest in AI-driven features and mortgage workflows
- Prior experience leading teams or writing SOPs
