  • Senior level role
  • Hybrid work setup
  • PhD in Chemistry required
  • Python proficiency needed
  • Semiconductor focus

Join the PFAS team within SandboxAQ's Chemical Simulation group to develop environmentally safe substitutes for semiconductor manufacturing materials. You will serve as the scientific link between AI-driven molecular discovery and external partners who validate candidate molecules in real-world fab environments.

The role involves running generative chemistry workflows, assessing chemical plausibility, and translating experimental feedback into technical improvements. You will ensure proposed compounds meet performance, safety, and manufacturing constraints while aligning internal modeling teams with partner qualification criteria.

What you'll do

  • Act as primary scientific contact for external co-development partners
  • Define target specifications and qualification criteria with partners
  • Operate generative chemistry discovery workflows for PFAS substitution
  • Rank predicted compounds by fitness for specific use cases
  • Validate lead molecules against process and EHS constraints
  • Translate experimental feedback into actionable technical improvements
  • Align internal modeling targets with partner-defined criteria

What you'll need

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science
  • 3+ years post-PhD experience in industrial applied R&D
  • Experience developing high-purity performance materials
  • Familiarity with EHS specifications for process materials
  • Proficiency in Python for computational workflows
  • Experience bridging experiment and computation with partners
  • Knowledge of generative molecular design or ML property prediction

Nice to have

  • Experience defining qualification protocols with fabs or OEMs
  • Hands-on experience with PFAS phase-out or fluorine-free reformulation
  • Knowledge of semiconductor unit processes like lithography or etch
  • Publications or patents in semiconductor materials or fluorochemistry
  • Experience with CHIPS Act or federally funded R&D programs

Stack

  • Python
  • Generative ML
  • DFT
  • Molecular dynamics
  • Large Quantitative Models

How you'll work

  • Flexible hybrid work arrangements
  • Global team environment

What you get

  • Competitive base salary and equity
  • Performance-based incentives
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous parental leave and PTO
  • Dedicated learning budgets for professional growth
