Join Venn, a rapidly growing B2B fintech transforming business banking for Canadian entrepreneurs. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will lead the development of core financial products from the ground up, ensuring systems are production-ready and scalable.
You will work independently to integrate with banking partners and third-party APIs, enabling features such as virtual cards and international money transfers. This position offers the chance to shape the future of banking alongside product owners in a fast-paced startup setting.
What you'll do
- Lead development of financial services products including transfers, cards, and lending
- Ensure systems are production-ready and scalable from initial build
- Collaborate with product, sales, and operations to solve customer pain points
- Integrate with banking partners and third-party APIs for payment features
- Track financial data accurately and enable international money transfers
- Work independently with product owners in a fast-paced startup environment
What you'll need
- 5+ years of professional experience with Java
- 6+ years of experience in backend development
- Proven track record building and scaling production-ready products from scratch
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to learn quickly and drive results in an ambitious setting
- Entrepreneurial mindset suitable for early-stage business building
Nice to have
- Experience working at an early-stage or fast-growing startup
- Previous background in the fintech industry
- Familiarity with payment products like card issuing and credit
- Portfolio of side projects demonstrating technical skill
