Join the Backend Platform team at Close to build the foundation that enables other engineering teams to ship features faster. You will work on internal developer tools, API standards, and AI-driven coding agents like DevDawg and Spice.
This is a high-impact role for a seasoned Python engineer who enjoys solving meta-problems and improving production observability. You will help define architectural patterns and ensure safe, efficient code deployment across the organization.
What you'll do
- Expand cloud development environments and automated review tooling
- Build consistent API blueprints and authentication plumbing
- Modernize backend frameworks with clear migration paths
- Own production observability, metrics, and alerting standards
- Ship shared backend services like eventing and audit logs
- Set guardrails for coding agents to ensure safe merges
- Partner with Infrastructure team on application layer needs
What you'll need
- Seasoned Python engineer with strong architectural skills
- Experience shipping LLM-backed or agentic work to users
- Daily user of coding agents with clear opinions on their utility
- Fluent in observability, tracing, and production debugging
- Strong background in designing internet-facing APIs
- Experience handling high-latency incidents and critical systems
- Preference for shipping rough v1s over prolonged abstraction
Nice to have
- Proficiency in Go, Rust, or TypeScript
- Experience with GraphQL and OpenAPI specifications
- Background in building internal developer platforms
