Join Deepgram as a Senior Data Scientist working at the intersection of research and data operations. You will analyze complex conversational audio data to identify gaps, design systematic active learning strategies, and optimize human-in-the-loop workflows. This hands-on role offers significant latitude to define data strategies from first principles and scale proof-of-concepts into production pipelines.

What you'll do

  • Characterize data assets to identify underrepresented languages, domains, and quality levels
  • Design and build systematic active learning loops to prioritize high-impact work
  • Optimize human-in-the-loop workflows to maximize the value of scarce human attention
  • Create curated datasets and benchmarking methodologies for honest model quality assessment
  • Run experiments to validate data strategies and overturn assumptions with evidence
  • Ensure data consistency and make datasets accessible to non-technical teams
  • Automate model adaptation by turning one-off tasks into repeatable, documented pipelines

What you'll need

  • Hands-on experience with real data pipelines in data science, ML, or applied research
  • Strong proficiency in Python and data tooling for analysis and automation
  • Experience with data characterization, selection, or active learning problems
  • Familiarity with speech/audio or NLP models and their error modes
  • Track record of turning messy data situations into measurable product improvements
  • Ability to build reusable systems rather than one-off notebooks
  • Strong communication skills for translating complex findings to diverse audiences
  • Active daily user of advanced AI tools in professional workflows

Nice to have

  • Direct experience with ASR, TTS, or multilingual audio data
  • Experience with ensemble labeling, pseudo-labeling, or LLM-assisted annotation
  • Familiarity with data provenance and PII/GDPR-compliant pipelines
  • Experience building custom or fine-tuned models for specific domains
  • Comfort collaborating directly with research and engineering on shared infrastructure

Stack

  • Python
  • ASR
  • TTS
  • NLP
  • LLM

How you'll work

  • Fully remote position
  • Fast-paced environment with rapid changes
  • Expects active experimentation and adaptation
  • Not a traditional prescriptive 9-to-5 role
