Join Prompt Health to ensure the stability and scalability of databases powering their electronic medical record system. You will own production database health, optimize query performance, and implement automated safeguards while collaborating with engineering teams to maintain high standards in a HIPAA-compliant environment.
What you'll do
- Ensure reliability and performance of production Aurora MySQL databases
- Build observability pipelines using Datadog for metrics and alerts
- Train engineering teams on database hygiene and query optimization
- Implement automated safeguards against long-running queries
- Create and maintain runbooks for incident response
- Optimize queries and indexes to reduce latency and load
- Review application queries before release to prevent inefficiencies
- Manage replication, backups, failover, and disaster recovery
- Establish safe schema-change and migration practices
- Optimize database costs through right-sizing and capacity planning
What you'll need
- 6+ years in database reliability, administration, or engineering
- Deep expertise in MySQL query optimization and replication
- Experience with Aurora MySQL or RDS clusters at terabyte scale
- Proficiency with observability tools like Datadog or Prometheus
- Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar languages
- Comfort with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform
- Strong AWS operational knowledge including cost optimization
- Experience with on-call rotations and incident response
- Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills
Nice to have
- Experience with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake or Redshift
- Background in HIPAA-regulated or compliance-heavy environments
- Familiarity with query auto-remediation tooling
- Application-side knowledge of PHP for query review
- Understanding of security best practices for cloud databases
