As Front's first Design Engineer, you will bridge Product, Design, and Engineering teams. You will architect the design system, build reusable components, and implement high-quality UI patterns while leveraging AI tools for efficiency.
The role focuses on optimizing the design system for both human developers and AI agents, raising the visual and interaction standards of the product, and educating internal teams on best practices.
What you'll do
- Lead design system architecture across Figma, Storybook, and production code
- Build reusable, accessible components and documentation for humans and AI agents
- Create automations to keep design, docs, and code aligned and reduce drift
- Improve interaction patterns, micro-animations, and visual polish across the product
- Partner with Product and Design to define and implement optimal UI solutions
- Establish conventions and teach teams through workshops, pairing, and reviews
What you'll need
- 6+ years designing and building production frontend experiences
- Strong skills in modern web technologies and component-based architecture
- Deep experience architecting and maintaining design systems across design and code
- Proficiency with design-engineering tooling like visual regression and token pipelines
- Strong accessibility fundamentals including semantic HTML and ARIA patterns
- Experience using AI-assisted coding or design tools for prototyping and refactoring
- Portfolio demonstrating shipped design-engineering impact and component systems
Nice to have
- Experience with large frontend surface areas and multiple product teams
- Background in customer support, collaboration software, or workflow-heavy SaaS
- Familiarity with mature or evolving design systems in enterprise environments
