As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will translate urgent customer needs into high-quality, shippable product work. You will partner closely with Sales and Customer Success to unblock strategic deals and ensure long-term supportability of new features.
This role requires turning ambiguous problems into clear plans and delivering production-ready software that meets Fleetio’s engineering standards. You will drive work end-to-end, from discovery and scoping to implementation and stakeholder alignment.
What you'll do
- Ship product improvements that unblock strategic deals and expand platform capabilities
- Partner with Sales and Customer Success to define requirements and timelines
- Drive projects end-to-end from problem clarification to production-ready delivery
- Collaborate with Product and Design to make pragmatic scope decisions
- Ensure solutions meet standards for testing, observability, and maintainability
- Communicate proactively about tradeoffs, risks, and project status
What you'll need
- 5+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails
- 2+ years of experience with React
- Strong background in shipping production web applications
- Experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to decompose complex requests into incremental milestones
- Strong written communication skills for remote async work
Nice to have
- Experience with large-scale Ruby on Rails applications
- Background in building enterprise-facing platform capabilities
- History of partnering with go-to-market teams on time-sensitive deliveries
