Join the team behind HTS Assist, Hopper's agentic AI assistant that handles travel changes and bookings via chat and voice. You will anchor the product by owning the realtime and voice layers end to end.
The work spans React front ends, Scala and Python services, and cloud infrastructure. You will build features that directly impact travelers while ensuring low latency and high quality for enterprise partners.
What you'll do
- Own the voice channel including telephony and CPaaS integrations like Twilio
- Build streaming speech-to-text and text-to-speech pipelines
- Develop web chat front ends using React and TypeScript
- Create backend services in Scala and Python on GCP
- Design multi-tenant systems serving many partners via configuration
- Implement safety guardrails, content filtering, and PII redaction
- Maintain system health through observability and incident response
- Mentor team members and conduct code and architecture reviews
What you'll need
- 6+ years of software engineering experience with full-stack range
- Senior-level ownership of production systems
- Experience with realtime systems like WebRTC, SIP, or streaming media
- Strong skills in React, TypeScript, and backend languages like Scala or Python
- Cloud infrastructure experience on GCP or AWS
- Track record of building RESTful APIs and microservices
- Proficiency with AI coding tools and judgment to review outputs
- Operational mindset covering SLAs, observability, and on-call rotations
Nice to have
- Experience with conversational AI or LLM orchestration
- Familiarity with speech technologies like Deepgram or Whisper
- Knowledge of cloud telephony platforms like Amazon Connect or Genesys
- Background in customer service, CRM, or workflow automation tools
- Familiarity with travel industry technologies like PSS/GDS
