Tern is reshaping the travel agency industry by providing modern infrastructure to small business advisors. As a Senior Mobile Engineer, you will own the creation of their new mobile app, allowing advisors to manage bookings and clients on the go. This is a build-from-scratch opportunity where you define the technical foundation and release processes.
What you'll do
- Own the advisor mobile app end-to-end, including native shell and embedded web views
- Build and extend the Rails APIs required by the mobile application
- Ship working, tested features every week to get the app into users' hands quickly
- Establish hybrid and web-view patterns for other engineers and designers to follow
- Develop build pipelines, app store processes, crash reporting, and on-call routines
- Monitor production performance and resolve issues before they impact advisors
What you'll need
- Proven experience shipping a mobile app to App Store or Play Store and maintaining it
- Full-stack capability to build both frontend screens and backend APIs independently
- Pragmatic approach to choosing between native and hybrid technologies based on needs
- High agency to drive ambiguous problems to completion without heavy management
- Daily use of AI tools to enhance workflow, with judgment to verify outputs
Nice to have
- Comfortable working with Ruby on Rails or similar MVC backends
- Experience setting up a mobile app and release process from zero
- Background in startups or small companies with end-to-end product ownership
- Experience building consumer or professional tools where reliability is critical
