Join the Magnets team within SandboxAQ's Chemical Simulation group to discover next-generation magnetic materials. You will use first-principles simulations and machine learning to design high-performance magnets that reduce reliance on rare earth elements.
The role focuses on creating novel formulations compatible with existing manufacturing processes. You will work closely with AI platform teams and experimental partners to validate predictions and drive material innovation.
What you'll do
- Execute DFT and multi-scale simulations to predict magnet properties
- Build ML-driven workflows for high-throughput candidate screening
- Generate high-fidelity data to train magnetism-aware Large Quantitative Models
- Link atomistic outputs to microstructure and process-level predictions
- Collaborate with experimental teams to validate model predictions
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and file patents
What you'll need
- PhD in Solid-state Physics, Quantum Chemistry, or related field
- Hands-on experience with DFT or atomistic simulation
- Strong Python programming and scientific computing skills
- Experience applying ML or surrogate modeling to materials problems
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional experimental teams
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
