What you'll do
- Design and maintain efficient distributed Lance dataset operations
- Build indices to accelerate queries in Spark, Ray, or Trino
- Develop table formats and data encodings in Rust
- Drive open-source integration with major data systems
- Operate and improve internal data processing infrastructure
- Promote the Lance format in communities and conferences
What you'll need
- 10+ years building high-performance databases or big data systems
- Deep knowledge of open-source Big Data or AI training internals
- Strong experience with C++, Java, or Scala
- Experience with Rust or willingness to learn it
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively
Nice to have
- Contributor or committer in Apache or large open-source projects
- Experience with Apache Arrow, DataFusion, or Parquet
- Track record of driving features in distributed systems
- Strong presence in open-source communities
