Join the team responsible for Pliant's core backend flows, including card issuance and transaction processing. You will build reliable Java/Spring Boot microservices, define SLOs, and ensure high availability for a growing B2B payments platform serving thousands of businesses across Europe and the US.
What you'll do
- Define and improve SLOs, SLAs, and error budgets for critical services
- Scale the platform to handle rising request volumes and customer growth
- Identify and resolve capacity limits or risky patterns before they impact users
- Participate in a compensated 24/7 on-call rotation and lead incident response
- Manage observability using Datadog for dashboards, alerting, and tracing
- Design and ship new features end-to-end across Java microservices
What you'll need
- 5+ years building distributed backend services with Java and Spring Boot
- Experience with AWS cloud services, Kafka, and PostgreSQL
- Proven track record scaling high-availability systems under load
- Strong understanding of modern observability stacks and SLO thinking
- Ability to own features from design and implementation to testing
- Experience using AI tools effectively to support engineering work
Nice to have
- Background in payments, card issuing, or transaction processing
- Experience with PCI DSS certification or compliant environments
- Knowledge of fraud detection or prevention mechanisms
- Experience with chaos, resilience, capacity, or load testing
- Familiarity with canary, blue/green, or progressive deployment strategies
