Join the Canvas Core team to design and maintain the platform powering Mural’s infinite canvas and editor. You will work on real-time collaboration protocols, document editing behaviors, and systems that ensure fast, reliable interactions for users worldwide.
The role involves reducing platform complexity and enabling internal teams to ship features safely. You will partner with Product and Design to turn ambiguous problems into clear technical solutions while mentoring peers and improving engineering practices.
What you'll do
- Own delivery of Canvas platform capabilities from definition to release
- Design maintainable systems focusing on quality and performance
- Build developer-friendly APIs and service boundaries for internal use
- Use AI-assisted tools to prototype, test, and document work
- Mentor team members through code reviews and design discussions
- Optimize rendering and interaction performance for large documents
- Manage real-time synchronization and conflict handling in collaborative edits
What you'll need
- Fluency in modern JavaScript and TypeScript
- 6+ years of experience shipping large-scale production software
- Experience designing scalable, high-performance distributed systems
- Strong background in clean API contracts and data modeling
- Knowledge of concurrent or low-latency collaborative systems
- Ability to profile and optimize CPU/memory efficiency
- Comfortable using AI tools for engineering workflows
Nice to have
- Experience with hierarchical scene or document structures
- Familiarity with spatial indexing and querying
- Background in parallel processing or off-main-thread architectures
- Hands-on experience integrating AI product capabilities
- Previous work in high-growth scale-up environments
