You will join the Infrastructure Engineering team to own the cloud platform that supports Headway's mental healthcare services. Your work will involve redesigning deployment architectures, managing container footprints, and ensuring system scalability and safety.
The team builds the foundational paved road for other engineers, handling databases, observability, and autoscaling. You will drive initiatives to isolate blast radius, improve cost attribution, and optimize the Python runtime environment.
What you'll do
- Redesign deployment architecture to contain blast radius and prevent service-wide outages
- Manage ECS and EKS footprints and design inter-service network connectivity
- Implement proactive capacity planning and self-deriving autoscaling mechanisms
- Build a Terraform-based self-serve infrastructure platform with safety guardrails
- Establish per-team cost attribution across AWS, Datadog, and LLM spending
- Optimize Python runtime performance including garbage collection and event loop contention
What you'll need
- Five or more years in platform, infrastructure, or SRE roles with high traffic
- Deep expertise in AWS compute, networking, RDS, and IAM at scale
- Strong experience with Terraform and designing self-serve IaC platforms
- Hands-on background in autoscaling, capacity engineering, and container orchestration
- Proven track record of making deployments safe and self-serve for other teams
Nice to have
- Experience with FinOps and cloud cost optimization strategies
- Deep knowledge of Kubernetes and EKS implementations
- Proficiency with observability tooling like Datadog at scale
- Background in healthcare or other highly regulated industries
