Join tem as the first tech lead for the new Payments squad, part of the Saldo Billing and Payments Service. You will transform a basic payment service into a scalable infrastructure while driving down processing costs through improved accuracy and efficiency.
This hands-on leadership position requires setting architectural direction, defining team operating models, and solving complex technical problems alongside senior and junior engineers. You will report to the Service Manager for Saldo and play a key role in rearchitecting energy market infrastructure.
What you'll do
- Own squad delivery outcomes and maintain high engineering standards
- Write design docs, review PRs, and solve hard problems via code
- Define technical strategy for payments architecture from ambiguity
- Reduce cost-to-process by improving accuracy and efficiency
- Design squad operating model balancing speed, quality, and resilience
- Manage cross-team dependencies and diagnose throughput issues
- Coach junior engineers and define quality benchmarks with the team
- Partner with managers on hiring gaps and promotion decisions
What you'll need
- Proven track record as a Staff Engineer owning squad delivery
- Experience leading from the front line with hands-on coding
- Ability to balance technical challenges with coaching juniors
- Experience designing team ways of working from scratch
- Skill in managing cross-team sequencing and dependencies
- Comfort setting technical direction in ambiguous areas
- Preferred background in the payments industry
- Proficiency in Python (FastAPI) or modern JavaScript/TypeScript

- Experience improving cost-to-process in high-volume services
- Track record scaling services from basic versions to growth-ready
