Join Render's Expansion team to design and ship authentication, authorization, and access-management primitives. You will work on features such as SSO, RBAC, audit logging, and scoped credentials, ensuring security feels integrated rather than bolted on. The role involves owning the security experience across the stack, from user interfaces to backend APIs and data models.

What you'll do

  • Design and ship auth systems including credential scoping, SSO, and SCIM provisioning
  • Evolve authorization models for applications, environments, and projects
  • Own security experience from UI interfaces to backend APIs and data models
  • Build controls and audit trails for user and agent actions
  • Design shared auth APIs and drive adoption with Product and Design teams
  • Operate auth systems including observability, rollouts, and incident response

What you'll need

  • 6+ years of experience shipping and operating production systems
  • Experience building customer-facing authentication or authorization features
  • Ability to design systems where correctness and availability are critical
  • Skill in balancing security requirements with product usability tradeoffs
  • Track record of taking ambiguous projects from design to production

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, SCIM, or JWTs
  • Experience with multi-tenant authorization models like RBAC, ABAC, or ReBAC
  • Knowledge of workload identity, short-lived credentials, or secrets management
  • Background in building developer platforms or cloud infrastructure products
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001

How you'll work

  • Fully remote position
  • Visa sponsorship generally not available for new hires
  • Existing visa transfers may be sponsored at company discretion

What you get

  • 4 weeks of paid vacation
  • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • 100% employer-paid medical coverage
  • 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage
  • Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness and hobbies
  • Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy
  • Home office stipends for remote employees
  • Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans
