You will own the desktop experience for Actai's AI-native applications, ensuring high reliability and smooth performance in production environments. The team builds proactive tools for organizing workflows and conversations, aiming to reduce user prompting through intelligent automation.
Your work involves designing responsive UIs, managing local state efficiently, and optimizing Electron overhead across macOS and Windows. You will collaborate with a small, high-density team to ship quality software that handles long-running workflows and persistent context.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain cross-platform desktop apps using Electron
- Design responsive UIs for real-time collaboration features
- Implement native functionality like file access and notifications
- Integrate AI-powered chat and agent features via backend APIs
- Optimize startup time, memory usage, and runtime performance
- Profile and reduce Electron overhead for better efficiency
- Manage large local state and message history effectively
- Ensure stability and smooth updates across macOS and Windows
What you'll need
- Proven software engineering experience in production environments
- Hands-on experience building applications with Electron
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Experience with React or similar UI frameworks
- Solid understanding of desktop application lifecycles
- Experience with IPC communication mechanisms
- Knowledge of local storage solutions like SQLite or IndexedDB
- Experience with WebSockets or real-time transport protocols
- Strong debugging and performance profiling skills
- Familiarity with native OS behaviors on macOS or Windows
