You will own the desktop experience for Actai's proactive AI applications, ensuring high reliability and performance in production environments. The work involves building responsive UIs for real-time collaboration and integrating AI features via backend APIs while optimizing resource usage.
The team values collective decision-making and rapid execution, aiming to deliver a magical product that organizes users' lives with minimal prompting. You will work independently to bring structure and judgment to complex desktop-specific challenges.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain cross-platform desktop apps using Electron
- Design responsive UIs for real-time collaboration features
- Implement native functionality like file access and notifications
- Integrate AI-powered chat and agent features via APIs
- Optimize startup time, memory usage, and runtime performance
- Profile and reduce Electron overhead for better efficiency
- Manage large local state and message history efficiently
- Ensure stability across macOS and Windows environments
What you'll need
- Proven software engineering experience in production roles
- Hands-on experience building Electron applications
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Experience with React or similar UI frameworks
- Solid understanding of desktop application lifecycle
- Experience with IPC communication mechanisms
- Knowledge of local storage solutions like SQLite or IndexedDB
- Experience with WebSockets or real-time transport protocols
- Strong debugging and performance profiling skills
- Familiarity with native OS behaviors on macOS or Windows
