You will lead core engineers in developing features for EngFlow’s cloud-based distributed service, which accelerates software builds and tests. This position focuses on solving scalability challenges in build systems and compilers, with responsibilities spanning both individual contribution and team management.
Reporting to the Head of Product Engineering, you will guide projects and contribute to open-source ecosystems. The role offers the opportunity to transition from hands-on engineering to managing a growing team over time.
What you'll do
- Lead core engineers and drive key feature development
- Contribute to open-source projects like Bazel and gRPC
- Solve complex scalability and performance challenges
- Manage projects and potentially grow into team management
- Participate in on-call rotation for production issues
What you'll need
- Proven experience managing and influencing technical teams
- Deep interest in compilers, languages, and build systems
- Expertise in Linux, Unix, and cloud infrastructure
- Programming experience in Java required
- Experience with asynchronous programming and scalable architectures
- Strong conflict resolution and communication skills
- Willingness to handle escalated production issues
Nice to have
- Hands-on remote team management experience
- Proficiency in C++ and Rust
- Experience with Terraform
- Knowledge of CMake, Maven, Gradle, Nix, or Buck
