As a Solutions Architect at Mapbox Japan, you will act as a trusted technical and business advisor for automotive clients, ranging from global OEMs to local startups. You will lead technical discovery, design scalable architectures using Mapbox SDKs and APIs, and drive the adoption of next-generation mobility experiences.
This position blends software engineering depth with commercial acumen. You will collaborate with sales teams to shape opportunities, respond to technical requests, and provide feedback to product engineering. The role demands strong communication skills to influence stakeholders from developers to executives.
What you'll do
- Partner with sales to demonstrate technical value and shape business opportunities
- Lead technical discovery to define customer goals and success criteria
- Design scalable architectures using Mapbox SDKs, APIs, and platform services
- Create technical documentation and proposals for RFI and RFQ responses
- Conduct workshops, demos, and proofs of concept to enable customers
- Advocate for customer needs to influence product and engineering roadmaps
- Share best practices on mapping, mobility, and AI technologies
What you'll need
- Five or more years in solutions architecture or customer-facing engineering
- Fluent in both Japanese and English for written and verbal communication
- Current resident of Japan
- Experience building apps integrating back-end APIs and front-end SDKs
- Knowledge of web and mobile technologies like JavaScript, Android, and iOS
- Ability to translate complex requirements into robust technical architectures
- Strong business acumen and ability to work autonomously across teams
- Willingness to travel up to twenty-five percent for meetings and events
Nice to have
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering
- Experience with GIS, location intelligence, or geospatial data
- Familiarity with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Knowledge of AI technologies
- Experience collaborating with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers
- Understanding of navigation, ADAS, autonomous driving, or SDV technologies
