Join Serve Robotics to help reimagine urban logistics by building the software foundation for their autonomous sidewalk delivery robots. You will own significant platform components, working on embedded Linux systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago.
This position balances hands-on coding with systems-level architecture, requiring close collaboration with autonomy and hardware teams. You will design robust solutions for concurrency, networking, and resource constraints while mentoring other engineers and driving technical standards.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain robotics middleware using modern C++ on embedded Linux
- Own platform components from technical design through deployment and operation
- Collaborate with autonomy teams on risk assessments and fault-handling strategies
- Translate safety requirements into software behavior and verification plans
- Develop instrumentation and metrics to monitor fleet performance and health
- Diagnose complex issues involving concurrency, IPC, and constrained resources
- Lead code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and documentation
- Mentor engineers through design discussions and knowledge sharing
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or related field
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with production code
- Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 and newer)
- Experience debugging systems software in embedded Linux environments
- Deep understanding of multithreading, concurrency, and synchronization
- Background in latency-sensitive or safety-critical system design
- Proven ability to profile and optimize embedded software performance
- Strong troubleshooting skills across software and hardware boundaries
Nice to have
- Experience with robotics middleware or autonomous vehicle systems
- Deployment experience on NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded platforms
- Knowledge of Linux internals, scheduling, and device interfaces
- Background in functional safety or failure-mode analysis
- Familiarity with RPC frameworks like Protocol Buffers or FlatBuffers
- Experience building telemetry and diagnostic tools for device fleets
- Integration experience with sensors and robotic hardware components
Stack
