As a Staff Engineer at Preply, you will operate as a high-impact individual contributor across the organization. You will partner with leadership to define technical roadmaps, evolve core services into scalable platforms, and raise engineering standards through mentorship and strategic decision-making.
You may join the Learning tribe to build AI-powered personalized experiences or the Monetization tribe to work on payments and subscription systems. The role requires balancing long-term architectural vision with pragmatic execution in a fast-growing EdTech environment.
What you'll do
- Define and co-own engineering strategy and technical roadmaps with product leaders
- Act as key architect to evolve core services for scalability and reliability
- Drive migrations, deprecations, and performance improvements across systems
- Mentor Senior Engineers and Tech Leads to elevate overall technical bar
- Lead tooling evaluations and make build-vs-buy decisions based on cost
- Champion engineering excellence through RFCs, post-mortems, and quality frameworks
- Integrate Agentic AI as a thought partner for architecture and business logic
What you'll need
- Strong background in software engineering and large-scale system architecture
- Ability to translate business goals into technical strategy and execution
- Experience influencing stakeholders without relying on formal authority
- Comfortable diving into code to build proofs of concept and validate ideas
- Proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and shaping engineering culture
- Hands-on experience using Agentic AI to enhance engineering workflows
- Analytical approach to solving problems and making decisions under uncertainty
