Join the AI Foundations Team at Mural to design backend systems that power agentic, AI-driven collaboration. You will work on agent orchestration, durable execution, and contextual memory to help teams align and make decisions visually.
This position involves building scalable services and APIs that allow AI agents to reason over product context and act reliably on behalf of users. You will also define technical direction and mentor engineers while establishing best practices for reliable AI systems.
What you'll do
- Build core backend systems for agent orchestration, tool execution, and memory
- Design scalable services and APIs for context retrieval and workflow coordination
- Develop agent memory layers for conversation and product context management
- Create infrastructure for monitoring, debugging, and evaluating agent behavior
- Translate product needs into clear backend architectures and data models
- Define technical direction for agentic AI and contribute to long-term strategy
- Mentor engineers and establish best practices for building reliable AI systems
- Support team growth through hiring and process improvements
What you'll need
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with production systems
- Expertise in designing scalable services, APIs, and system architectures
- Experience with distributed systems, orchestration, and event-driven architectures
- Familiarity with AI, LLM, or agentic systems concepts like tool use
- Strong focus on observability, reliability, testing, and security
- Excellent communication skills and ability to produce technical documentation
- Experience working full stack or collaborating on frontend experiences
Nice to have
- Deeper AI/ML experience with LLM evaluation and embeddings
- Experience with knowledge graphs and graph-based data modeling
- Familiarity with entity resolution or relationship-aware retrieval systems
