Join UpGuard as a Staff Software Engineer to define technical strategy while remaining active in code delivery. You will collaborate with engineering leadership to solve cross-team architecture and scaling problems for a platform processing billions of risk signals daily.
The team builds a Cyber Risk Posture Management solution using agentic AI and security ratings. You will work within a product squad, mentoring senior engineers and influencing the roadmap alongside product managers and designers.
What you'll do
- Ship features within a squad to keep technical direction grounded in customer needs
- Define cross-team technical standards and own architecture decisions spanning multiple groups
- Solve complex scaling and data challenges for high-volume signal processing
- Mentor senior engineers and raise organizational engineering bar through code reviews
- Collaborate with leadership to shape the product roadmap and prioritization
What you'll need
- At least eight years of engineering experience in product-driven tech companies
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and React for front-end development
- Productive in a backend language, preferably Go
- Solid skills in relational databases, specifically Postgres
- Default use of AI coding tools with judgment to review and own outputs
- Proven track record of setting technical direction across multiple teams
- Experience owning end-to-end scaling or architecture problems with business impact
- Ability to influence without authority and collaborate with product leadership
Nice to have
- Background in cybersecurity domain
- Experience running services on Kubernetes, ideally on Google Cloud Platform
- Expertise in data engineering, large-scale scanning, or high-throughput systems
- History of evolving architecture and culture during company scaling phases
- Experience building complex applications from the ground up with cross-functional teams

- Fully remote working environment with no mandatory office attendance
- Physical offices available in Sydney and Hobart but not required
