You will provide technical leadership for the team responsible for creating and maintaining standardized cyber ranges and virtual-machine templates. The work involves range architecture, networking, operating systems, virtualization, and automation to support realistic simulation environments.
This is a hands-on Staff-level role where you will solve complex problems directly while enhancing the team's ability to deliver independently. Success is defined by improving system leverage through architecture, standards, and mentoring rather than owning every difficult problem permanently.
What you'll do
- Set technical direction for reusable cyber ranges and balance trade-offs among realism, security, and scalability.
- Improve Ansible and Packer architecture to ensure configurations are modular, idempotent, and secure.
- Design and troubleshoot complex virtual networks, VMware infrastructure, Windows Server, and Linux systems.
- Diagnose failures across networks, operating systems, and automation using packet-level and system-level evidence.
- Mentor engineers, delegate ownership, and lead cross-team technical decisions to reduce single-person dependencies.
What you'll need
- 6-8 years of experience designing and automating complex infrastructure or cybersecurity environments.
- Advanced enterprise networking skills including routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, and VPNs.
- Hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Linux administration across multiple distributions.
- Production experience with Ansible, Packer, VMware vCenter, and at least one other virtualization platform.
- Proficiency with Git and experience improving automated validation and release practices for infrastructure code.
Nice to have
- Experience developing cyber ranges, digital twins, or simulation platforms.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, containers, infrastructure as code, or CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working with offensive and defensive security teams or in high-security environments.
- Relevant certifications in networking, security, Linux, Windows, or virtualization.
