Meadow is modernizing payments for higher education, aiming to simplify the student financial experience similar to how Shopify transformed retail. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will architect scalable systems and lead feature development from concept to production.
You will partner with Product, Design, and Customer Experience teams to deliver reliable software. The team integrates AI tooling into daily workflows, requiring engineers who can leverage these tools effectively while maintaining high standards for code quality and system design.
What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end development of product features from design to deployment
- Architect and build scalable backend services and APIs using TypeScript
- Contribute to frontend development using modern frameworks like React
- Design systems prioritizing reliability, observability, and maintainability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-facing functionality
- Participate in code reviews and uphold high engineering standards
- Improve engineering processes, tooling, and documentation for scale
- Shape technical decisions and engineering culture as the company grows
What you'll need
- 10+ years of experience in product engineering
- Proven track record building and operating production systems at scale
- Strong ability to own problems end-to-end and make consequential decisions
- High agency with comfort committing under uncertainty
- Deep empathy for users across various segments and personas
- Ability to generate original solutions for ambiguous technical problems
- Expertise in design and architecture that reduces complexity
- Proficiency with AI tooling and integrating it into development workflows
- Strong communication skills to guide debates and reach consensus
Nice to have
- Experience at an early stage startup (Seed, Series A, or Series B)
- Background in FinTech or other regulated industries
- Previous experience as a people manager or technical lead

How you'll work
