Join the Core Edge Processing team to write and review production code for Marqeta's transaction routing and authorization systems. You will drive initiatives to improve speed, reliability, and cost-efficiency of this always-on payment infrastructure.
This hands-on leadership role requires deep technical involvement in system design and code quality. You will mentor engineers and set high standards while working on mission-critical codebases that directly impact transaction success.
What you'll do
- Ship and refine production code for routing and processing stacks
- Lead initiatives to improve platform reliability and performance
- Design systems including data models and failure strategies
- Mentor engineers and guide technical direction
- Manage complex, mission-critical codebases
What you'll need
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- Expertise in Java, concurrency, and performance
- Experience building reliable systems at scale
- Comfortable in regulated, cloud-native environments
- Background in payment processing or card issuing
Nice to have
- Cryptography or key management experience
- Experience with HSM, AWS Payment Cryptography, or KMS
- Running systems across multiple regions with failover
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and AWS
