Onebrief builds collaboration and AI-powered workflow software for military planning and operational coordination. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will set the technical direction for the platform, making architectural decisions that impact the entire organization.
You will tackle ambiguous challenges, build shared systems, and evolve AI-assisted development practices. This role requires balancing long-term platform health with rapid customer delivery in a mission-critical context.
What you'll do
- Drive technical strategy across multiple squads and shape lasting architectural decisions.
- Transform loosely defined problems into scalable solutions for engineering teams.
- Build shared systems and platform capabilities to accelerate team delivery.
- Partner with leadership to balance platform health with customer needs.
- Evolve AI-assisted development practices and engineering standards.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews and cross-team collaboration.
What you'll need
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with technical leadership track record.
- Strong experience designing scalable distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
- Full-stack expertise across frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
- Active user of AI-assisted development tools with thoughtful integration approach.
- Excellent communication skills for driving alignment via design docs.
- Comfortable leading through ambiguity and influencing without authority.
Nice to have
- Background in mission-critical or high-compliance domains like FedRAMP or DoD.
- Experience with authentication infrastructure at scale such as OIDC or SAML.
- Prior experience in high-growth B2B SaaS environments.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and async-first system design.
