Join AeroVect as a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of production-grade planning software for autonomous ground support equipment. You will own the architecture and implementation of mission, behavior, and motion planners, solving complex problems in trajectory optimization and decision-making under uncertainty.
Reporting to the Planning Tech Lead, you will collaborate with perception, controls, and systems teams to deliver integrated autonomy solutions. This position offers the chance to shape an enterprise product combining autonomous vehicle technology with a robotics-as-a-service model.
What you'll do
- Design and implement mission, behavior, and motion planners for autonomous ground equipment.
- Drive technical decisions on algorithms, interfaces, and architecture for the planning stack.
- Prototype and evaluate new approaches such as optimization-based methods and search-based planners.
- Collaborate with perception, controls, and localization teams to integrate the autonomous system.
- Establish best practices in software development, functional safety, and systems engineering.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical guidance.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, or related field.
- Extensive experience designing planning modules for autonomous systems deployed in real-world operations.
- Strong programming skills in C++ or Python with experience in Linux-based operating systems.
- Ability to independently drive ambiguous technical problems to well-architected solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, proactiveness, and a strong sense of ownership.
Nice to have
- MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
- Mastery of Modern C++ (14+) and safety-critical coding practices like MISRA or ISO 26262.
- Five or more years of industry experience in planning for robotic ground vehicles.
- In-depth understanding of DDS frameworks such as ROS or ROS2.
- Experience working in startup environments with rapidly changing priorities.
